Die Verwendung eines Stretchstoffes für den Bezug steht symbolisch für einen zeitgenössischen Lebensstil, bei welchem Flexibilität in der Nutzung und Komfort uns wesentlich erscheinen. Wir haben uns das Sofa wie eine reife, genüssliche Frucht ausgedacht.'' So beschreiben Ronan und Erwan Bouroullec ihren Entwurf, mit dem sie den besonderen Momenten des Tages Rechnung tragen, in denen jeder von uns sich entspannen oder sich mit anderen im Hause treffen will. Dabei sollte der größtmögliche Komfort dem Körper Entspannung ermöglichen, in allen möglichen Positionen, von der traditionellen Sitzposition bis zur Liegeposition. Der große 3-Sitzer mit seiner besonderen halbrunden Form dreht die Nutzer aufeinander zu, um einen gemeinsamen Punkt. Die Sofas PLOUM sind das Ergebnis einer Recherche über den Komfort. Sie beruht auf der besonderen Kombination von zwei Materialien: der Stretchbezug und ein besonders weicher Schaumstoff. In Verbindung mit großzügigen Dimensionen bietet die Kombination dieser Materialien einen außergewöhnlichen Komfort und die Möglichkeit unterschiedlicher Körperpositionen. Dank seiner Elastizität überzieht der gesteppte Stretchbezug die durchgehend runde Form von Sitzfläche, Rücken- und Armlehnen in einem Stück. Der Bezug ist extrem dehnbar und ermöglicht der Unterpolsterung, sich dem Gewicht und der Form des Körpers anzupassen.
