Chairs made of bent wood, filigree with curved shapes. Furniture from Thonet is unmistakable. With the world-famous chair no. 14, the Viennese coffee house chair, the manufactory created a classic that went down in history as early as the 19th century. Fine, sustainable and true to style combined with the latest technologies - this is how Thonet furniture tells a long story full of tradition, success and durability
We have been producing furniture for the home and contract sector for two centuries: with a passion for materials and special precision, we manufacture designer icons made of molded wood and tubular steel as well as contemporary furniture by well-known designers at our factory in Frankenberg. It is the combination of modern manufacturing technologies and traditional craftsmanship that makes Thonet one of the most economically successful furniture companies in the world. The origin of Michael Thonet's intuition was the observation that fresh wood is more elastic than dry wood: based on this insight, Thonet and several of his contemporaries tested the bending of multi-layered wood, which was dipped in boiling glue and then hardened in solid forms. At Möbelfirst, you can easily purchase furniture from Thonet and buy it cheaply online.
High-quality Thonet furniture for your home away from home
The employees in our manufactory have specific know-how that has developed over the course of the company's long history and is continuously optimized. Today, as in the past, this results in pioneering products that are always designed for sustainability: These are characterized by the highest quality and a timeless design language. Thonet armchairs, Thonet chairs and even Thonet sofas are characterized by their high quality. At Thonet, each product is based on a sophisticated concept and numerous production steps - from processing the wood or tubular steel to staining and upholstering. In this way, every piece of furniture has its own personal touch and its own story even before it leaves the production facility.

At the same time, namely seventy years after the construction of chair no. 14 (today 214), Marcel Breuer designed his first pieces of tubular steel furniture. After acquiring Standard Möbel, a company co-founded by Breuer, Thonet began manufacturing Breuer's designs in 1930. This led to the development of today's tubular steel classics S 32 and S 64, important links between the traditional bending technique of squared timber and contemporary tubular steel bending. Their Viennese weave evokes memories of existing craftsmanship, their space-defining form with the functionality (of the cantilever chair initiated by Mart Stam) already pointed in the direction of the future.
