Setting the table for Christmas: 2 variations
The Advent season is in full swing and Christmas is practically just around the corner. Presents are being bought, the family is arriving and the best thing? You can feast around the clock and really indulge yourself! To make your Christmas dinner really festive, the right Christmas decorations on the dining table are a must. In this article, we reveal our two favorite ideas for a festive Christmas table. Let us inspire you for your dining area!
Table decoration: the classic version
It should be festive at Christmas. Setting a table for Christmas is usually quick and easy. On special festive days, we recommend a classic white linen tablecloth as the basis. Depending on the number of guests, you can protect the delicate color with additional tablecloths. Go for festive colors such as a vibrant fir green or an elegant red.
Continue with the crockery and cutlery. The plate and salad plate are stacked on top of each other in the middle of the place setting. If there are several courses, place the cutlery from the outside (starter) to the inside (main course). The knife goes to the right, the soup spoon to the right of it. The fork and salad fork are on the left. The cutlery for dessert is placed diagonally above the plates. If you want to be really accurate: The handle of the dessert spoon is on the right-hand side above the fork.
You surely want to enjoy a good wine during the meal, don't you? Then place a water glass and a wine glass slightly offset on the top right-hand edge of the placemat. It's best to ask beforehand whether it should be a white or a red wine so that you have the right glasses to hand.
A napkin is of course a must for classic table decorations. Linen napkins look particularly elegant and are great for decorating. For example, instead of a napkin ring, you can simply use a piece of Christmas-style ribbon. Alternatively, you can drape small Christmas baubles on the plate.
We start with classic pillar candles as decoration in the middle of the table. Depending on the size of the table, there may be two or three candles. Next, take some fir greenery and pine cones and arrange everything around the candles. Do you have other decorations such as small silver reindeer, wooden trees or Christmas baubles? Then you can also place these on the table. Make sure that the colors match the placemats as closely as possible so that you don't have too many different colors on the table.
Et voila - the classic Christmas table decoration is ready. Now everyone can take a seat at the table with chairs and enjoy the food.
Modern table decoration with color
Is classic white too boring for you and do you usually have a lot of guests? Then here's idea number 2: let's start with your dining table. Do you have a lot of guests coming over? Then an extendable dining table with a matching set of chairs is the best option. That way, you can quickly extend it if necessary.
Here, too, we choose a tablecloth. However, in contrast to the classic version, we recommend a table runner for a longer table. This is placed in the middle and decorated accordingly. Choose it in bright colors so that it stands out wonderfully. Lined with fir greenery, Christmas baubles and several pillar candles, it immediately creates the right atmosphere.
We would also recommend placemats for modern Christmas decorations. Sets made of raffia, for example, go perfectly with the bold color of the table runner. As a natural material, raffia exudes a natural, warm atmosphere and is also a small visual highlight on the table.
When it comes to cutlery and crockery, you can keep it downright spartan and only drape the cutlery on the placemat. Paired with a white napkin in a pretty napkin ring, you can create a simple elegance at every seat. As a small highlight, you can also attach a home-baked cookie to the napkin. This way you have a little eye-catcher and a Christmas greeting from the kitchen. The best thing? If you do without tableware, the space won't look cluttered. Give it a try. You'll be delighted!
Decoration on the dining table? Yes please!
Our conclusion on the perfect Christmas table: festive decorations really make a difference - especially if the overall picture is right. Dining table, chairs, decorations - you can feel the atmosphere just by imagining it. Simply fantastic! But here too, as always: anything goes, nothing is a must. The main thing is to enjoy the time with your loved ones and have a good time. The entire MöbelFirst team wishes you a Merry Christmas!
